quick flea market tour

I briefly stopped by the flea market by the Port Authority and my heart skipped a little faster when I came across this beautiful wood set type. If I can come across some cheap one on ebay then I will definitely get it, but I didn't bother asking the guy the price when he told another person that the type goes upto $20. I presumed that was for the large letters.
So instead I got some snapshots, before he told me not to take photos. Realistically he had no authority, as I wasn't on his private property, like in a store, but I stopped. Wouldn't want to get an old man angry now would I.

I also came across this IKEA dresser, which was falling apart on the side. There seems to be an entire IKEA collection on craigslist, so I can only imagine that someone really clueless would even consider buying that piece.

Fine Things

There are already plenty of reasons for hubby and me to go visit Austria, besides the fact that my close friend and my other friend's mother lives there, who I was close with too, I have yet another reason: feinedinge. It would be hard to resist at least something small from this store based in Vienna. The containers are whimsical, yet contemporary.

The New Yorker- cat cover art

I recently subscribed to The New Yorker.
Here is some of their cover art. I was surprised at the amount of it that depicts kitty cats. I didn't make it through all the archives, but here are a couple that I came across.

01.29.1990

01.03.2005
This is my favorite one. I like the color, the idea and simplicity of it.
10.30.2006
This one is just really funny.
01.06.1992
03.22.1993
Another good one.
11.18.1996
03.1.1982
11.01.1982
And the not so friendly one.

Aster's grooming day

About a month ago or so I snatched up my grooming tools from work to give Aster a more decent haircut than what she usually gets when I use my "crappy" clipper and 3"scissors.
A proper grooming clipper, 8" scissors and thinning shears make all the difference. Only thing missing is the nuse, as she loves to lie down and sit during the process.

The madness returns

I can't wait!

glassware

Uptown on the west side is this wonderful store that sells these beautiful murano glass plates. They felt so fragile, that if I had them at home, I would be paranoid that I would break them. Perhaps that is why there are little signs that say " Please do not handle", which I only managed to see after I touched these little plates.

It also carries a pretty large variety of other great glass and pottery products, such as these.

New York Times cover art

Every week the New York Times issues a magazine. The articles themeselves are predominently great, but it's the cover art that draws me to them first. I especially enjoy the more illustrated cover art, over the photographic one.
And although not seen here,I am always impressed by their creative, functional and expressive use of typography for their stories.

Birdy

The whole painting process is still of a challenge, and I'm just trying to be patient and not rush the whole thing ( like attempting to finish a piece within two days).
So I took out and old painting that I doodled on, and went a bit over it. It's not great, but it was unplanned and rushed, because really, when I want to paint, I want to paint and not plan. Next time, more planning.

There is nothing quite like editing an image in Paint.

STARBUCKS's version of almost no ice

After walking for some time, there was nothing I wanted more than a nice cold iced tea from STARBUCKS.
I told the guy specifically that I wanted VERY little ice, almost no ice.
The funny part was, that it even said on the cup " light on ice", and on top of that, the guy handing me the tea said " Iced tea, light on ice".
I was thirsty, the place was busy, so I walked, but this is not my version of little ice.
When I am going to drink this cup at most in the next 15 min, I really don't need more than 4 ice cubes. Nor do I wish to pay over $3for a drink, which is nothing more than 1/3 frozen water.... sigh

Stonebalancing by Adrian Gray

Adrian Gray creates these temporary balancing sculptures out of natural stone. I don't know how long such a piece stays together, but it's pretty awesome that it does, even if it's brief.
